Excelana is the result of an exciting collaboration between John Arbon of Fibre Harvest and Susan Crawford knitwear designer and author, bringing you a luxurious knitting yarn evoking vintage wools from the “Golden Age” of knitting.
Excelana yarn is 100% British wool, spun from the fleece of the Exmoor Blueface, which live on the moors of North Devon. A cross between the Exmoor Horn and the Bluefaced Leicester, the fleece of the Exmoor Blueface creates a lustrous yarn with a soft handle, great stretch and excellent stitch definition, affording the knitter a pleasurable knitting experience.
Excelana is processed and spun in Devon by Fibre Harvest, at Coldharbour Mill, one of only a handful of worsted fibre processing and spinning plants still operating in the UK.
Excelana will be available in 50g balls, in four weights; 4 Ply, DK, Aran and also a unique 3 Ply. Currently the 4 ply is available in all shades and DK is available only in two. Aran and 3 ply weights are to follow this summer.
Excelana is available in Susan’s own carefully chosen colour palette of eight, complementary, vintage inspired shades:
Persian Grey • Nile Green • Cornflower Blue • Powdered Egg • French Rose • Ruby Red • Alabaster • Saharan Sand
Excelana is supported with a collection of exclusive patterns designed by Susan and will also have pattern support provided in A Stitch in Time Volume Two.
